Slovakia is rich in nature and art. Broad river valleys with mountains and hill chains characterise both the west and the east of the country. The Tatra, a densely wooded mountain chain, determines the north - the fertile Pannonian Plain dominates in the south. The capital of Slovakia and at the same time the infrastructural heart of the country is Bratislava, located at the Danube, close to the borders of Austria and Hungary. Tourists are attracted primarily by the alpine landscape of the Tatra. Because of its numerous castles from the Middle Ages, such as Castle Zips, Slovakia is an attractive holiday destination also for those, who are mainly interested in culture.
