Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is famous for its beautiful old town with several mosques, orthodox churches and monumental buildings. As host of the Olympic Summer Games in 1984 Sarajevo attained world-wide fame as a sports town. Thousands of people fell victim to the siege of Sarajevo during the Yugoslavian civil war.
