Riga
Riga was founded in 1201. Being located on the Daugava close to the Gulf of Riga, the city possessed all the requirements for becoming a blossoming trading town. The capital of Latvia indeed had been a member of the Hanseatic League since 1282 - and the building boom of theses times still can be spotted in today's cityscape. The old town of Riga (since 1997 UNESCO world cultural heritage) offers numerous sights: Begun with the Church of Saint Peter over the cathedral and the castle up to the famous Three Brothers.
