Damascus is the capital of Syria. Being the oldest inhabited town of the world, Damascus definitely is rich of attractions. A small walk through the Al-Hamidiyyeh bazaar leads to the Omayyad Mosque (its history dates back to the 9th century). A temple of the Aramaic God Haddad had once been located in the place of today's mosque. Further famous buildings of Damascus are the Tikiyyeh Mosque (from the 16th century) and the Al-Azem Palace (18th century.)
