The city of Belgrade is the capital of Serbia and – until June 2006 – was the administration centre of the former association of the states Serbia and Montenegro. The river Danube runs through Belgrade in a length of 60 km. 7,000 years old, Belgrade belongs to the oldest permanently populated towns of Europe. The historical emblem of Belgrade is the fortress Kalemegdan. It has been extended constantly since the Middle Ages
