Astana
Astana is the face of Kazakhstan and has changed a lot over the past years. New architectural buildings are combined with modern design and the final touches are often influenced by the orient. The major building is the Baiterek Tower where visitors can get up to 97 meters to take a step on the observation deck. This height symbolises the year of deciding that the capital is Astana not Almaty in 1997. The tower is also home of an aquarium and of the art gallery. The city is still growing and attracts tourists with a lot of festivals, concerts, and exhibitions all over the year. Nevertheless for visitors the summer is more enjoyable as it can be very snowy and cold during the winter months. Moreover there is an impressive national park situated in the south-west of Astana with two lakes. It's the largest preserve zone in the country. For wildlife aficionados the Duman Entertainment Complex is the best place to enjoy shows and to have a close look to sea horses, cow fish, Japanese box fish, sharks and many more interesting animals.
