Armenia
Being a landlocked country in the Caucasus, the history of Armenia is characterized by numerous controversies with the neighbouring states. Armenia attained its independence with the dissolution of the USSR in 1991 and became today's republic of Armenia. Geographically Armenia is a distinctive mountain area. Almost 90% of the country are located more than 1,000 m above the sea-level. The capital is Yerevan, where many important museums can be found: the national art gallery, a museum for modern art and a museum, that is dedicated to Martiros Saryan, Armenia's probably best known painter.
