Tirana
Tirana is the capital of the Republic of Albania. It is on the river Ishm. The distance to the Adriatic Sea measures about 30 kilometres. The cityscape of Tirana is partly Middle Eastern, partly - due to the interwar years - Italian, but for the main part dominated by communist plate buildings and numerous slums. Within the last few years the façades of whole streets in the centre of Tirana were redesigned in shrill colours and modern patterns.
